I have los t over 50 lbs, and feel pretty good. I am now officially a less fat fat guy, but I am hoping to continue the downsizing trend and enter a new demographic in time.
I must admit, the key so far has b een quitting alcohol, and I can’t tell you how much better I feel without it. It has been easier than I thought because I don’t miss how I felt. I encourage anyone of any age to consider it.
So this healthy living thing is an ongoing project. My wife is out with a friend, and I have time to kill. I thought I would take Toby for a hike, as we have been planning to make hikes part of what we do. I want to go out for at least a few hours at a time. This is not far from here, on a 7 mile loop. Easy, but not so much that I can go on a whim .
I realized that I am ill prepared for such an adventure on a day where the temps will peak in the 90s. I do not have a decent pack to carry enough food and water for us.
There are places higher in the hills where temps are cooler, but those hikes and the drive to them are longer. I have let a bit of the day get away, and if I go, I will need to make sure we have water and food. I know it sounds dumb, but I also am not confortable going with just the two of us without some emergency supplies, and without telling my wife exactly where I am going. (She isn’t here).
I used to do a lot of backpacking and such, and the people who taught me drilled backwoods safety rules into my head. I hated the whole 127 hours story because I have hiked into the Maze, and it is a basic rule that you always tell someone where you are going and when you are going to be back. Those guys who took me into the mountains and deserts as a teen would be hard pressed to go to the mall without a first aid kit and space blanket.
I know many of you are thinking, “What a baby !”
But I did have a heart attack 5 months ago, and although I can carry nitroglycerin with me, I think I need to be careful for now. I will not go without being prepared in the event someone has to come get me.
So I am headed to REI for a day pack and other necesary supplies, and I am making a list of local hikes that Toby and I can do as our new active hobby. Obviously, what I was doing before didn’t work, so I have to change things up. This also provides me with an excuse to eat sashimi for lunch. Yum.
Then treadmill and pool. I also have some broken trim clips that need replacing on the Sunchaser, and I got the new ones. Maybe there is time, or maybe I will go for a ride on the Vespa.
It appears that my neighbor acquired the Model 3 by trading in or selling his F150, as it is MIA since the Tesla showed up in the driveway. Yes, I know my neighbors’ cars better than I know my neighbors. I never claimed that I was a sane person.
I am saving for my ultrasonic record cleaner, and am thinking of starting a gofundme. My pitch “Lawyer who can totally afford it but doesn’t want to wait to save seeks contribution for record cleaner that he wants to buy now. Please fund my bullshit interests with no tangible benefit to you whatsoever.”
I think it has a nice ring to it. Most honest gofundme ever.
Sorry for rambling.

The only semester I took off from college was summer 2010. Since I was still underage, I couldn’t drink at home so I didn’t drink for that summer. I lost something like 20 lbs, I was back down to the same size I was in high school.

“Yes, I know my neighbors’ cars better than I know my neighbors. I never claimed that I was a sane person.”
I’ve been that way all my life. I bet a lot of others here have too.
I’ve been eating way better the last couple weeks myself. Down 10 pounds as of a week ago. Many, many more to go. I never have been a drinker. For me it was donuts and pizza and whatnot.

I don’t mind the rambling... feel free to do more.
And an F150 traded for a Model 3... that there is something that would make a lot of Ford, GM and FCA execs and marketing people shit themselves.

1. I just send my wife a text like ridding Reid Divide at Talley lake and that’s good enough for notification. She knows that if I have not checked in and it’s dark to call search and rescue.
2. I don’t usually give specific gear recommendations but Osprey makes the absolute best day packs and REI sells a full line up. I got this Daylite plus last fall and it’s wonderful. It’s super light fits incredibly well and has plenty of room for a full days hiking. You would need to buy a 100 oz bladder to go with it but otherwise it’s perfect. Camel backs are nice too but generally have less gear room and are more designed for bike ridding than hiking.

I stopped sugar soda a few weeks ago and dropped about 5 lbs. Felt pretty good... Then I went o n a cruise so that process is well and truly gone. Oh well.

I know if I had your job and dealt with the people you do, it’d drive me to drink.
